Horizon Air to Reinforce Cockpit Doors

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2001--Horizon Air said today that it will reinforce cockpit doors on its entire fleet with deadbolt devices to hinder unauthorized access to the flight deck.

The work is being performed in accordance with a temporary Federal Aviation Administration regulation allowing immediate improvement of cockpit security. Horizon's installation is expected to be completed within the next four days on the carrier's fleet of 61 aircraft.

Horizon expects the deadbolt devices to be an interim measure pending more permanent design solutions for ensuring cockpit security.

Horizon's sister company, Alaska Airlines, is in the process of reinforcing its cockpit doors as well and expects installation on its entire 102-aircraft fleet to be completed within the next 25 days.

Horizon Air serves 39 cities in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California, and Alberta and British Columbia. Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines are subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group, Inc.
