Business Ethics Names Alaska Air Group One of Nation's Best Corporate Citizens

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 2001--Alaska Air Group (NYSE:ALK) has been named one of America's best corporate citizens by Business Ethics magazine.

In the March/April issue, which hits newsstands today, the magazine offers up its annual list of what it considers the nation's 100 most socially responsible companies.

Other Seattle-based companies named to the list include Starbucks and Nordstrom, both of which, like Alaska, are known for their top-notch customer service.

Publicly traded companies considered for the list are evaluated on how they serve four major stakeholders -- employees, shareholders, customers and the community at large -- as well as their environmental record.

Rankings are done by researchers at the Boston College Carroll School of Management and by the social research firm of Kinder, Lydenberg & Domini.

This marks Alaska Air Group's second year on the list. Earlier this month, Alaska Airlines was rated the best major U.S. carrier by frequent flyers in the 2001 Zagat Airline Survey, a rating the carrier earned in 2000 from readers of Conde Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure magazines. Horizon Air also was recognized last year as one of the nation's top 10 carriers by Conde Nast readers.

Business Ethics magazine focuses on corporate social responsibility and progressive management practices. This month's issue, including the list of 100 best corporate citizens, is available online at www.business-ethics.com.
