Alaska Recommends Passengers Arrive At Least Two Hours Early for Presidents' Day Weekend

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 15, 2002--Alaska Airlines is recommending that all customers checking in for flights over the busy Presidents' Day Weekend arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure time at larger airport locations.

"We're seeing very large numbers of customers checking in for flights due to the upcoming three-day holiday, combined with the beginning of mid-winter break in some parts of our route system," said Ed White, Alaska's vice president of customer service. "In Seattle today alone, we expect to see 2,000 more passengers check in for flights than even the busiest day we experienced over the recent Christmas holiday travel period."

Arriving early is particularly important due to the increased security customers can expect to encounter at all airports, White said. Customers can confirm their flight times on the Internet at alaskaair.com, or by calling Alaska reservations at 800/ALASKAAIR (800/252-7522).

White also offered the additional tips for passengers:

Pack less. The less you bring with you, the quicker you'll get checked in for your flight and through security. FAA carry-on baggage rules allow each customer one standard-size carry-on bag and one personal item such as a purse, briefcase or laptop computer. Make sure to place identification both outside and inside of all bags.

No sharp objects. To avoid delays and inconvenience at security checkpoints, remember that sharp objects -- pen knives, scissors, nail clippers with files -- are not allowed in carry-on baggage.

Limit electronic devices. Since security screeners will ask you to turn on each electronic device you pack in your carry-on luggage (cell phones, portable CD players, etc.), limit the number of items you take with you to get through security more quickly.

Go to straight to the gate. Flight reservations are subject to cancellation if you are not at the gate prepared to board 20 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure.

Pack patience. Remember that heightened security measures are in place for everyone's safety. For more news and information, visit the online Alaska Airlines News Room on the Internet at http://newsroom.alaskaair.com.
