Alaska, Horizon Want You to Travel Smart During Upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday
SEATTLE, Nov 20, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alaska Airlines (NYSE:ALK) and Horizon
Air are asking customers to pack plenty of patience and not much else when they
embark on their Thanksgiving holiday this year.
That's because with extremely large numbers of passengers traveling combined with heightened security since the Sept. 11 attacks, it will likely take longer than usual to get from curbside to plane-side this holiday season.
Here are some tips from Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air geared to help you get through security more quickly and help ensure that you'll make your flight:
-- One carry-on only. New FAA rules allow each customer to carry one standard-sized carry-on bag and one small personal item such as a purse, briefcase or laptop computer. -- No wrapped packages. All packages are subject to inspection by security screeners, including wrapped packages and gifts. Wait until you arrive at your destination to wrap packages. -- No sharp objects. No knives, scissors, fingernail files, knitting needles or other sharp objects are allowed beyond the security checkpoint. Place these items in your checked luggage only, or better yet, leave them at home. -- Limit electronic devices. Cell phones, pagers, laptop computers, digital assistants, CD players and other electronic devices will be scrutinized more carefully at security checkpoints. Because you may be asked to remove each item from your bag and turn it on for screeners, save time by limiting the number of devices you carry with you. -- Checked baggage is faster. You'll get through the security checkpoint faster with no carry-on bags, so check your luggage at the ticket counter or at a skycap location if available. And in Seattle, a security express lane has been reserved for passengers with no carry-on bags. -- Be patient. Traveling is stressful for everyone this holiday, including those helping to get you on your way. Understand that heightened security measures are in place for everyone's safety. For more news and information, visit the Alaska Airlines Newsroom on the Internet at http://newsroom.alaskaair.com.
