Alaska, Horizon Express Sympathy for Victims of Terrorist Attacks, Provide Information On Passengers' Reaccommodation

SEATTLE, Sep 11, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The 15,000 employees of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air (NYSE:ALK) joined the airline industry today in expressing deep sorrow to their colleagues at American and United, as well as all victims and families of those at the center of the horrific events in New York, Washington, D.C. and outside Pittsburgh.

Approximately 1,000 Alaska and Horizon flights were grounded today in accordance with FAA instructions. All aircraft landed safely.

Alaska and Horizon will reaccommodate passengers affected by today's cancellations on new flights after FAA flight restrictions are lifted -- no sooner than 9 a.m. Pacific time tomorrow. Both airlines will continue to issue flight updates through the media and on the airlines' websites at www.alaskaair.com and www.horizonair.com.

Customers seeking to change their flights may do so with no fee or penalty through Saturday, Sept. 15. Customers seeking refunds -- including refunds on nonrefundable tickets -- for travel through Sept. 15 also may do so at no fee or penalty.

As a result of heightened security measures taken by both airlines, neither Alaska or Horizon will accept unaccompanied minors for travel until further notice.

Both carriers request that all passengers refrain from going to the airport until further clarification is available regarding the resumption of flights. For more information, please monitor the airlines' websites at www.alaskaair.com or www.horizonair.com.

ALASKA AIRLINES / HORIZON AIR IRREGULAR OPERATIONS DUE TO FAA SECURITY ALERT

THESE PROVISIONS APPLY TO PASSENGERS HOLDING CONFIRMED TICKETS VALIDATED FOR TRAVEL DATED SEPTEMBER 11 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15, 2001. THESE PROVISIONS APPLY TO BOTH PURCHASED AND AWARD TICKETS. PASSENGERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS AND HAVING VALID DOCUMENTS FOR NEW TRAVEL PLANS.

    1. WHOLLY UNUSED TICKETS:
A. TICKETS CAN BE APPLIED FOR TRAVEL UP TO 30DAYS FROM ORIGINAL TRAVEL DATE. ALASKA/HORIZON WILL WAIVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEE AND ANY FARE DIFFERENCE RESULTING FROM A CHANGE IN THE DAY OF WEEK OR SEASON APPLICATION.

B. TICKETS CAN BE APPLIED FOR A NEW ITINERARY UP TO ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF ORIGINAL TICKET ISSUANCE. PASSENGER MUST QUALIFY FOR ALL RESTRICTIONS OF NEW FARE. ALASKA/HORIZON WILL WAIVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEE.

C. ALL UNUSED TICKETS MAY BE REFUNDED INCLUDING NON-REFUNDABLE TICKETS FOR PASSENGERS HOLDING CONFIRMED TICKETS FOR TRAVEL SEPTEMBER 11 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15, 2001.

D. UNACCOMPANIED MINOR TRAVEL IS EMBARGOED THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15, 2001.

    2. PARTIALLY USED TICKETS:
A. PASSENGERS HOLDING RETURN TICKETS FOR TRAVEL DATED 11SEP01 THROUGH 15SEP01 MAY REBOOK FOR TRAVEL UP TO 30DAYS FROM ORIGINAL TRAVEL DATE REGARDLESS OF FARE RULES. ALASKA/HORIZON WILL WAIVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEE.

B. PASSENGERS HOLDING RETURN TICKETS DATED FOR TRAVEL SEPTEMBER 11 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15, 2001 MAY REBOOK FOR TRAVEL TO/FROM AN ALTERNATE CITY UP TO 30 DAYS FROM ORIGINAL TRAVEL DATE REGARDLESS OF MINIMUM/MAXIMUM STAY ON TICKETED FARE. TICKETS WILL BE ACCEPTED AS ORIGINALLY ISSUED. ALASKA/HORIZON WILL WAIVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE FEE.

    C. STANDARD REFUND POLICY APPLIES FOR PARTIALLY UNUSED TICKETS.
D. UNACCOMPANIED MINOR TRAVEL IS EMBARGOED THROUGH SEPTEMBER 15, 2001.

    THIS POLICY MAY BE REVISED PENDING LIFTING OF FAA RESTRICTIONS.
