Alaska Airlines Partners With Sasquatch Books to Offer Online City Guides

SEATTLE, Feb 21, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Whether it's a restaurant review for Kodiak, suggestions for the best shopping in Calgary or the location of the most popular beaches in Los Cabos, you can find it with Alaska Airlines' (NYSE:ALK) new online City Guides.

Alaska has teamed up with Sasquatch Books, publisher of the award winning Best Places guidebook series, and with AccuWeather to create a new online trip planning resource at www.alaskaair.com.

"We wanted to create the best online travel guide of any airline," said Steve Jarvis, Alaska's staff vice president of e-commerce. "Our online City Guides are your personal concierge."

The Best Places series was singular in that it featured so many of the cities in the airlines' unique route system, which includes 19 cities in the state of Alaska and dozens more along the West Coast.

"Sasquatch Books chose alaskaair.com as the exclusive airline Web site for our award winning content because of Alaska's unique route match and outstanding reputation," said Susan Quinn, Sasquatch's vice president of sales and marketing.

With destination content provided primarily by Best Places, alaskaair.com's City Guides offer information on attractions, shopping and restaurants, along with photographs and maps. AccuWeather, the world's largest and best-known weather service, provides weather conditions and forecasts.

In addition to providing useful trip-planning information, City Guides conveniently allow users to check fares and book flights or vacation packages directly from the City Guides.

Travelers can also purchase Best Places guidebooks at a special alaskaair.com savings of 25 percent off the cover price.

Alaska Airlines made history in 1995 when it became the first North American carrier to sell tickets online and again in 1999 when it became the first carrier in the world to allow customers to check in for flights online via the Internet. The respected Internet research firm Forrester ranked Alaska Airlines No. 1 among the nation's major airlines. Alaska Airlines was voted "World's Best Domestic Airline" by readers of Travel+Leisure magazine. Alaska and its sister carrier, Horizon Air, together serve 80 cities in Alaska, the Lower 48, Canada and Mexico.
