Alaska Air Group Reports October Traffic

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 2001--Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) today reported October passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska Airlines' October traffic decreased 7.3 percent to 812.2 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 875.8 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during October was 1.277 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 10.5 percent lower than the 1.427 billion in October 2000.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare paying passengers) for the month was 63.6 percent, compared to 61.4 percent in October 2000. The airline carried 923,400 passengers compared to 1,024,000 in October 2000.

RPMs for the ten-month period totaled 10.326 billion, a 3.6 percent increase from the 9.963 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the ten months ended October 2001 increased 5.0 percent to 15.075 billion ASMs, compared to 14.362 billion in 2000.

The passenger load factor for the first ten months of 2001 was

  • 68.5 percent, compared to 69.4 percent in 2000. The airline carried 11,566,100 passengers compared to 11,278,900 in 2000.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon Air's October traffic decreased 18.5 percent to 95.5 million RPMs from 117.2 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for October was 155.6 million ASMs, 20.5 percent lower than last year's 195.7 million.

The passenger load factor for the month was 61.4 percent, compared to 59.9 percent last October. The airline carried 333,100 passengers compared to 409,500 in October 2000.

RPMs for the ten-month period totaled 1.146 billion, a 3.7 percent decrease from the 1.190 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the ten months ended October 2001 decreased 5.2 percent to 1.829 billion ASMs, compared to 1.930 billion in 2000.

The passenger load factor for the first ten months of 2001 was

  • 62.6 percent, compared to 61.6 percent in 2000. The airline carried 3,967,800 passengers, compared to 4,222,900 in 2000.
