SEATTLE, Jul 5, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) today reported June passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines' June traffic increased 9.9 percent to 1.177 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.071 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during June was 1.622 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 15.2 percent higher than the 1.408 billion in June 2000.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare paying passengers) for the month was 72.5 percent, down from 76.0 percent in June 2000. The airline carried 1,322,200 passengers compared to 1,201,700 in June 2000.

RPMs for the six-month period totaled 6.185 billion, a 5.5 percent increase from the 5.861 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the six months ended June 2001 increased 7.9 percent to 9.111 billion ASMs, up from 8.441 billion in 2000.

The passenger load factor for the first six months of 2001 was 67.9 percent, down from 69.4 percent in 2000. The airline carried 6,895,600 passengers compared to 6,599,900 in 2000.

Horizon Air

Horizon Air's June traffic increased 1.1 percent to 126.0 million RPMs from 124.6 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for June was 193.0 million ASMs, 0.2 percent higher than last year's 192.6 million.

The passenger load factor for the month was 65.3 percent, compared to 64.7 percent last June. The airline carried 436,600 passengers compared to 443,000 in June 2000.

RPMs for the six-month period totaled 693.4 million, a 1.7 percent increase from the 682.0 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the six months ended June 2001 decreased 0.8 percent to 1.119 billion ASMs, down from 1.128 billion in 2000.

The passenger load factor for the first six months of 2001 was 62.0 percent, up from 60.5 percent in 2000. The airline carried 2,427,500 passengers, compared to 2,457,700 in 2000.
