SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 2001--Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) today reported July passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska Airlines' July traffic increased 10.2 percent to 1.281 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.162 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during July was 1.750 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 14.8 percent higher than the 1.525 billion in July 2000.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare paying passengers) for the month was 73.2 percent, down from 76.2 percent in July 2000. The airline carried 1,437,100 passengers compared to 1,296,300 in July 2000.

RPMs for the seven-month period totaled 7.466 billion, a 6.3 percent increase from the 7.024 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the seven months ended July 2001 increased 9.0 percent to

• 10.861 billion ASMs, up from 9.966 billion in 2000. The passenger load factor for the first seven months of 2001 was

• 68.7 percent, down from 70.5 percent in 2000. The airline carried 8,332,700 passengers compared to 7,896,300 in 2000.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon Air's July traffic increased 0.8 percent to 134.3 million RPMs from 133.2 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for July was 204.4 million ASMs, 0.2 percent higher than last year's 204.0 million.

The passenger load factor for the month was 65.7 percent, compared to 65.3 percent last July. The airline carried 452,500 passengers compared to 460,400 in July 2000.

RPMs for the seven-month period totaled 827.7 million, a 1.5 percent increase from the 815.2 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the seven months ended July 2001 decreased 0.6 percent to

• 1.323 billion ASMs, down from 1.332 billion in 2000. The passenger load factor for the first seven months of 2001 was

• 62.6 percent, up from 61.2 percent in 2000. The airline carried 2,880,000 passengers, compared to 2,918,100 in 2000.
