SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 2001--For the second year in a row, InternetWeek magazine has named Alaska Air Group (NYSE:ALK) as one of the top 100 e-businesses in the nation.

InternetWeek selected Alaska Air Group following a survey and an analysis of its effectiveness in using the Internet to achieve tangible business benefits. According to the magazine, the survey was designed to measure e-business performance and results, not just evaluate Internet-related technology investments.

Alaska Air Group is the holding company for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

"We are pleased to be recognized for the strides we have taken with Internet technology," said Robert Reeder, Alaska's senior vice president of information and communication services. "Already, more than 15 percent of our business is booked on the Web, and that is only one measure of our commitment to enhance customer service through the use of technology. We are also making great strides in expanding services over the Internet to our geographically dispersed employee group."

In arriving at the top-100 list, InternetWeek considered, among other things, the types of customer service that companies make available over the Internet, the extent companies have expanded their customer base because of e-business activities, how companies help create e-market places, and the revenue derived from e-business activities.

Other airlines to make the 2001 list were American, Delta and Southwest.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air became the first U.S. carriers to sell tickets online in 1995, and in 1999 they were the first carriers in the world to allow customers to check in for flights online via the Internet. Together they serve 75 cities in the Lower 48, Alaska, Canada and Mexico, with more than 1,100 daily departures.
