Alaska Air Group Elects Campbell to Board of Directors

SEATTLE, Jan 30, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) today elected Phyllis J. Campbell to its board of directors.

Campbell, the former president of U.S. Bank of Washington, currently serves as chairperson of the bank's Community Board. The Board, composed of business leaders from across western Washington, provides business advice and community perspective to the bank's senior management.

During her tenure as president of U.S. Bank of Washington, from 1993 to 2001, Campbell led the organization's growth through strategic acquisitions and innovative marketing and sales programs. Beginning as a management trainee in 1973 with Old National Bank in Spokane, she held a series of positions of increasing responsibility over the course of a nearly 30-year career with the bank.

The list of Campbell's civic contributions is significant, and focused mainly on education and human services issues. In 1998 she headed the United Way of King County Campaign raising a record-setting $68.7 million. She has also chaired the boards of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Washington Business. She is the current chairperson of the board of the Seattle Foundation.

Campbell currently serves on the boards of SAFECO, Puget Sound Energy, the Pacific Science Center and is also a member of the board of regents for Washington State University.

The American Jewish Committee honored Campbell by presenting her with its Human Relations Award in 1996. In 1999 the Seattle chapter of B'nai B'rith honored her with its Champion of Youth award and two years ago the International Women's Forum honored her with the prestigious Women Who Make a Difference award.

A graduate of Washington State University, Campbell also holds a degree from the University of Washington's Executive MBA Program. A graduate of Stanford University's Executive Management Program, Campbell also holds honorary doctorates from Whitworth College and Gonzaga University.
